Dartmouth sits about ten to fifteen minutes from downtown Halifax over either bridge, and if you're moving between the two, that crossing is the part worth planning around. The Macdonald and MacKay both back up at predictable times, and a truck sitting in bridge traffic is time you're paying for. We schedule cross-harbour moves to miss the worst of it.
The city itself has changed fast. The waterfront around King's Wharf has filled in with condo towers, downtown Dartmouth around Portland Street and Alderney Landing has become the place people move to specifically so they can walk to the ferry, and the older suburbs south and east of it are still the mid-century family homes they always were. Each of those is a different kind of moving day.
And then there's Burnside — the largest industrial park east of Montreal, and where most of the region's storage units are. A lot of our Dartmouth work is simply moving things in or out of one.

Neighbourhoods, housing and the moves we see most
Downtown Dartmouth has become its own destination. Around Portland Street, Alderney Landing and the ferry terminal, people are moving in deliberately — swapping a car commute for a twelve-minute boat ride across the harbour. The housing there is a mix of older two- and three-storey walk-ups with no lift and steep stairs, and new-build apartments with proper loading access. Which one you're in changes the move completely, so it's the first thing we ask.
The King's Wharf development on the waterfront is the other end of the spectrum: modern towers, underground parking, a service elevator you book in advance. Those moves run like clockwork as long as the booking is in place before we arrive.
Head south and east and Dartmouth turns suburban. Woodlawn, Woodside and Port Wallis are largely mid-century bungalows and split-entries — the kind of house with a finished basement that has accumulated thirty years of things nobody has looked at. Cole Harbour and Westphal are family-home territory with driveways and garages. These are full house moves, and the basement is always the part that takes longest.
Then Burnside. Between the industrial park and the storage facilities clustered around it, a steady share of our Dartmouth jobs are storage runs — a unit being filled before a house sale, or emptied after one, or a few pieces shuttled home for the season.

Do you move between Halifax and Dartmouth?
Constantly — cross-harbour moves are one of the most common jobs we do. Bridge timing is factored into the plan so you're not paying for a truck sitting in traffic on the Macdonald at five o'clock.
Can you move things in or out of a Burnside storage unit?
Yes, and it's a regular run for us. Storage moves start at $60 for a small load. Just check your facility's access hours before you book so we're not turning up to a locked gate.
I'm in a King's Wharf condo — is that a problem?
Not at all, as long as you've booked the service elevator with your building. Tell us the window you've been given and we'll build the move around it.
