Salmon River flats, Truro

Truro is roughly an hour from Halifax on Highway 102, which puts it well inside the 90-minute radius we work in. It's the furthest of the five communities we cover in detail, and the one where the moves tend to be longest — most of our Truro work is a relocation between here and the city rather than a move across town.

The reason is straightforward: housing in Colchester County costs a fraction of what it does in the HRM, and enough jobs have stayed flexible that a lot of people have decided the drive is worth it. We move a steady stream of households in that direction, plus a smaller number heading the other way when a job pulls someone back toward Halifax.

The rest is local. Truro is the hub of the county, with the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus in Bible Hill bringing its own student moving calendar, and a downtown of century homes that are lovely to look at and a genuine test of a moving crew.

All three services, right across Truro

Same flat starting prices you'd get anywhere else in our service area.

Marketplace & small moves — $60

Long-distance Marketplace deliveries are a real gap out here — a lot of Halifax sellers simply won't drive to Truro, and a lot of Truro buyers can't get to Halifax. We do that run regularly.

Apartment & room moves — $100

Student moves around the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus in Bible Hill, plus apartments and flats through downtown Truro and along Prince Street.

Full house moves — from $100

Full relocations between Truro and the Halifax area in either direction, and local moves within Colchester County — Salmon River, Onslow, Valley and out through the rural roads.

On the ground

Neighbourhoods, housing and the moves we see most

Downtown Truro is century-home country. The streets around Prince Street and Inglis Place are full of large, old, beautiful houses with narrow doorframes, tight turns at the top of the stairs and the occasional third floor. They're the kind of house where a sofa either goes up on its end or doesn't go up at all, and knowing which before you start is most of the skill.

Across the Salmon River in Bible Hill, the picture changes. Newer subdivisions, more bungalows, easier access — and the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus, which gives the area a student rental market and the same late-August and late-April crunch that the Halifax universities create, just on a smaller scale.

Out from there, Colchester County spreads into Salmon River, Onslow, Valley and a lot of rural road. Those properties usually have plenty of space to work with and a long gravel driveway to carry down, which is worth mentioning when you ask for a quote.

The move we're asked about most in Truro is the relocation itself — a household leaving Halifax, Dartmouth or Bedford for a house here that costs meaningfully less, or a Truro household moving toward the city for work. Both are a full day with an hour of highway in the middle, so they need booking further ahead than a move across town: about a month, and more if it's tied to a closing date.

Questions

Truro moving questions

Do you really drive to Truro from Halifax?

Yes — it's about an hour up Highway 102 and comfortably inside our 90-minute service area. Halifax–Truro relocations in both directions are a regular part of what we do.

Will a Halifax to Truro move cost more than a local one?

The distance is part of the quote, so it will price above a cross-town move. You'll have the number before you book. If you're moving a small amount, ask about the small-move rate — a single item to Truro is often cheaper than people assume.

Can you help with a student move at the Agricultural Campus?

Yes. Bible Hill's rental calendar runs on the same late-August rhythm as the Halifax universities, so book early for those dates. Single-room moves are fine — we only load what's yours.
